Mendota Canal Yields Man's Body
Gustine -- The body of John Boggs, 54, Newman, was found in the Delta-Mendota
canal near the Bunker Road crossing, about four miles south of hear, this
morning. The body was sighted by a canal employee.
Stanislaus County sheriff's officer said William Miller of Newman reported to
police in Newman he had seen Boggs body floating in the canal early Monday
morning. Miller, according to officers, reported he recognized the man, a
personal friend, who had become despondent. Bogg's pickup trick was found
abandoned about two miles from Newman.
The body was taken to Davis-Hansen Funeral Chapel in Newman.

Final Rites For John C. Boggs. [Note, John C. Boggs, not John S. Boggs]
Services were conducted last week for John C. Boggs, 54, a lifetime native of
Newman, California. His body was discovered Oct. 12 in the Delta Mendota Canal
near the Bunker Road crossing.
Boggs was a cowboy in this area all his life except for a period when he served
his country during World War ll.
Interment was in Hills-Ferry Cemetery following services held at the
Davis-Hansen Funeral Chapel in Newman.
He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn B. Gilleman Oakland and Mrs. Luella
B. Talbott of Honolulu, Hawaii.
