Death of Fred Gardenhire

Fred M. Gardenhire, who for many years was a well known citizen of Merced, died at his home in Lodi, San Joaquin county, on Saturday last from pneumonia.

Mr. Gardenhire was a native of Tennessee and was 73 years of age. During his residence in Merced he was engaged in the drayage business and he was a man who was well liked and popular with everyone who knew him.

He left Merced some 15 years ago and went to Stanislaus county, where he made his home for a number of years. The remains were brought to Merced last Monday, and the funeral took place at the grave in the Merced cemetery. He being a pioneer many of the Native Daughters of Merced attended the funeral which is one of the obligations of their order.

Surviving him are four daughters, Mrs. A.L. ARCHAMBEAULT of Lodi, Mrs. John JEFFERY of Coulterville, Mrs. E.B. WOOD of Montpelier and Mrs. A.L. KNOWLES of Stockton.
