JOHN GORHAM, EARLY PIONEER, PASSED AWAY
 
 John James Gorham, 86, one of the West Side's earliest pioneers and a resident of Hills Ferry for more than sixty years, passed away at his home there on Friday, July 24th.
 
  Gorham, who crossed the plains in a covered wagon, worked for the Stevinson family for many years, and at one time was constable in Newman, later being in charge of the pumps at the Newman water works. Had a host of friends in the latter town and throughout the entire West Side.
 
 He is survived by his widow, Cynthia Gorham.
 
 Funeral services were held Monday at the Davis Funeral Chapel in Newman, under auspices of Orestimbia Lodge, I. O. O. F. Interment was at Newman Masonic cemetery.
