FORMER SUPERVISOR IS CALLED BY DEATH

James W. Haley, one of the best known and most highly respected residents of the West Side section of this county, passed away Wednesday evening at his home near Los Banos, death following an illness of several years.

Mr. Haley was born in San Francisco eighty years ago, but for more than fifty years had been engaged in farming and stock-raising in the foothills west of Los Banos. In the early '90s he was elected a member of the Board of Supervisors, serving two terms and serving as Chairman of the Board during the greater portion of that time. Later he was elected to the Legislature, representing Merced and Stanislaus counties in the Assembly. He was a man of high ideals, fair and honest in his dealings, a true and loyal friend, and he was respected and esteemed by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.

Surviving relatives are his widow, Mrs. Rosanna Haley; a son, George J. Haley of Los Banos, and a brother, D. T. Haley of Gustine.

The funeral services were held at Los Banos this morning.
