FORMER MERCED WOMAN
IS SUMMONED

Mrs. Laura E. A. Huffman, widow of the late C. H. Huffman, founder of the Crocker-Huffman, founder of the Crocker-Huffman Land & Water Company, and a well-known and highly respected former resident of Merced, passed away at her home in San Francisco yesterday morning.

Mrs. Huffman was a native of Missouri and was aged 77 years. Coming to Merced with her family in 1873. Mrs. Huffman resided here for more than twenty years and took an active part in all movements for the betterment of the community. She was noted for her kindness and generosity, and as one who knew her well remarked yesterday when informed of her death, “Mrs. Huffman is a quiet way did more for the poor people of Merced than any other person who ever lived here.”

In 1895 Mr. Huffman disposed of his Merced county interests and established the family home in San Francisco, where he died on July 7, 1905.

Mrs. Huffman leaves four daughters and three sons–Mrs. Caroline Griffth, Mrs. Mercedes Nelson and Mrs. Genevieve Bristol of San Francisco. Mrs.  Mary White of Marysville, Fred Huffman of Modoc county, Edwin Huffman of Wawona and J. Walton Huffman of Merced.
