San Jose Rites Are Set For Merced Native, 82
MERCED, Merced Co.— Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 PM in the Willow Glen Church in San Jose for Elijah Temple Russell, a native of Merced County who died Wednesday in a Santa Cruz hospital at the age of 82.
He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Russell and was born on the ranch his parents homesteaded on Mariposa Creek eight miles south of Merced, near what now is Highway 99. His father came to California from Tennessee in 1852 and his mother was from Texas. They met and were married in Mariposa in the early 1860s, and lived there for several years before coming to Merced County. Russell retired several years ago and moved to Santa Cruz, more recently, he and his wife. Cecil, who survives him, lived in San Jose. He also leaves two daughters, Mrs. Pat Stocking and Mrs. Marlett Stark of San Jose; two brothers, O. L. and G. L. Russell of Merced, and two sisters, Mrs. William Young, Merced, and Mrs. Clarence Ross, Oakland.
