ASBURY, Mrs. Sarah
Merced Express, July 10, 1896
Obituary.
Mrs. Sarah Asbury, who died at Merced, June 29th, 1896, was a native of
Harrisburg, Pa., aged 67 years, 3 months and 17 days, and was the widow of
the late Elisha Asbury. She leaves six children to mourn the loss of a
kind, indulgent, loving mother–Mrs. Jennie Roberts of Santa Barbara,
Mrs. Mary Smith of Sacramento, Charles Heacox of Santa Barbara, Joseph Heacox of
Merced, Jefferson Asbury of Merced, and Mrs. Fannie Randall of Merced.
Mrs. Asbury came to California in 1853 and has resided in Merced county over
thirty years, where she was beloved and respected by a large circle
of relatives and friends. Her house was always open to the homeless who called
at her door. She questioned not the why nor the wherefore, but in
the language of Sir Walter Scott, the language of her noble, generous heart was.
