MERCED PIONEER PASSES AT YUBA
James Prescott Youd, early day settler of Merced county, died Nov. 19 at Yuba City, it was learned here today. He was 78.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Chico where his wife, who died three years ago, is buried. She was formerly Mrs. Belle Little of Hopeton. Two children, Henry Youd of Yuba City and Mrs. Nellie Kellogg of Chico survive.
Youd was a member of the pioneer Youd family which settled in the Sandy Mush district in 1868. About 20 years later he moved to the Merced river district near Snelling.
He was born in a covered wagon train as his parents came to California during the gold rush. His birth was at Spanish Fork, Utah. William Youd, a brother, and a sister Emma Youd survive. They live near Snelling.
